Day of the Dead

Ughhh, I am not a fan of Blogger and it's inefficient ways of posting artwork. Suuupper annoying. But you can see it, and that's all that matters. For those of you that didn't know, if you click on the pictures you can toggle through them, which is much more fun then scrolling up and down. 

So! This is a project I've been working on in my drawing class. It focuses a lot on ellipses aka circles aka natures perfect form of torture for artists. We had to include three that were on the table and then create our own scenario from our IMAGINATION.

I know! So exciting. 

I like it very much; very challenging, very satifying. I like to look at it, which I guess is a mark of success. Plates are hard. Wine glasses are bitches. Day of the Dead makeup is really neat. Skin tone is challenging.

Beddings

New assignment in drawing: moving on from sad fruit, we have entered the world of sadistic fabric. Fabric don't give a shit. Fruits are like, aw man, I'm wilting! My shapes are forgiving and interpretive! Fabrics like: Oh IM SORRY if you feel seasick trying to grasp my shapes and curves.

 I just fell this way baby!

Mhmm. Mhmm. Drawin' some pillows. I chose not to blend the charcoal.

Which I don't regret. I like the affect it has. Blending does give it a softer look, 

but I like the sharpness of mine. 

I tackle the fabric. I want to throw up or literally tackle the fabric.

I am loving my drawing class. Was a little freaked out they placed me in a higher class, but I feel like I'm not only keeping up, I might be in the top of the class. I hesitate to say this of course, cause it sounds braggy as HELL. Bear with me though okay? I'm sure I will have a crisis of self confidence by the time we're through.
We did an exercise where we drew a
banana
apple
and a shoe box
from memory. Then afterword, the teacher brought out the actual, physical items, and we had to draw those. Drawing from my memory was a lot easier, lemme tell you.

For today's assignment, we were to bring in a
pastry
beverage
and a fruit

I brought a muffin from work, pellegrino and a super old nasty lime.
So we made a little composition on the stool (shown above) and drew that. THEN in a surprise assignment (which seems pretty obvious to me now) the teacher had us take away the items and REDO the composition from memory.
Making me regret that I paid such attention to detail on the stool's paint marks.
It was hard man! But I did it. And I loved it.

I have been itching to paint for so many weeks, but I wanted something big! Big Big Big! I want to paint on walls and alleyways and make it huge. I had never bought anything larger then like, a 10 inch canvas before. So today I went on over to blick and purchased a fairly large canvas, with basically no plan for it. Except blue. 

The painting I think about lately has been very blue. I notice that when I am thinking about painting or drawing (When I'm not in the shower or driving, which are my usual "brainstorming" sessions) I get a lot of weird looks. I think I'm fuzzily looking into space biting my lip. Or perhaps breathing with my mouth open and drooling. Who knows! I had a nice day looking around Elliot Bay Books and eating lunch at Oddfellows. And now I have to go to work. But not before posting a process photo of the new painting. Very inspired by this:

And a conversation yesterday about potential tattoos. 

I'm not sure if it's done. I'll have to hang it and stare it at for an hour when it dries.

Light Night

It glows in the dark! No, not really. But I like it. It's so amazingly nice to have actual days off. I just sit down and let my brain go. I may or may not have painted my face with watercolors this evening. But it inspired another painting! Which is drying at the moment. More to see soon!

I bought a desk at a flea market in Fremont on Sunday! Best purchase ever. We're best friends now! 

From the 19-somethings apparently! This desk is older then me! I know, lots of things are older then me. Still.

And done! Man, it looks so nice and then I scan it, and my scanner ruins it. Hooray. 

In more awesome news: Today I started a comic that's been floating around in my brain for a little while. I want to finish it by the time I go to Stumptown so I can hand it out there. I think it's a good representation of my humor and storytelling skills. There are no words, but there are pirates and a good dose of violence and romance. So the usual. 

I am spending some REAL TIME on this, so I'm pretty proud of it. Today I did a first draft and finished about 4 pages. Usually I just draw it, ink it, bam. Not with this story! There are DRAFTS! I spent about three hours working today and I'm just pleased as punch. Now I'm ordering chinese. IM LIKE A REAL ARTIST. 

I will post it when I am finished! 

And thanks for reading guys; it's so nice to have support when I'm like a little baby horse on shaky legs with my drawing.

Oh hi everyone! It's a lot of pictures today! I thought you may be interested (I'm very interested) in my painting/drawing process. So here 'tis. I like this painting a lot. Still looks unfinished to me, but sometimes when I like a painting I get a crippling fear that as soon as I try to improve upon it, I will ruin it forever. So... Maybe I'll get over it and the background will be something other then cream. Doubtful. Enjoy!
