Mame
For my autobio class. Really important memory from childhood. Mame (My grandma) was a really talented artist, and it didn't occur to me until much later how important this lesson was. Seeing things as an artist is like a super power sometimes. You are a human scanner, and that's amazing! I wish she was still around so I could show her all the things I've seen.
In other less sad and nostalgic news; I got into a show! My goal this semester was to enter ever Design project that comes my way (aka any design contests that are posted on the walls around school.) So far I am 3 for 3! I won the holiday card contest with my friend Katie, got into a small student show called Trick or Treat, and I got a poster into a really unique show called Russia Rising: Votes for Freedom. It's in the Cornish Main Gallery right now, and I was one of three students to be chosen for it. I'm pretty happy about it, so if you're in the Seattle area, check it out! Thanks for all your support guys, it really means a lot.

Sweetie
Oh my god I colored a thing on photoshop again! This is literally the second thing.
So. Super. Fun.
Who knows if I'm doing it "correctly." There were a couple times where I was like
'There has to be a shortcut I'm not getting here."
but who cares! That's later! Right now, this is colored!

I'm Inside The Pumpkin!
Guys. We knew this day would come. Where I successfully colored a picture on the computer. Using a tablet. Without crying.
That day is today.
This month is October.

Profesh uh nal
Seized by insane jealousy/ anxiety that i am not doing enough.
Real cool: Lady at my school who has no idea who I am. #transferstudentproblems

The internet is great for illustrators because we're constantly inspiring eachother
but also
showing me people that are much better then me.
Ugh. I just want to be better.

The Meadow
This was my final project for my comic book class. I used watercolor, and then brush with india ink on top of that. It was challenging, and a little sad to put words to the feelings I have about the relationship with my brother. I feel better about it though, now that I've written it. It's his birthday today!

Skelling Ton
Oh mr skelington. Actually a really enjoyable exercise. Thinking about investing in my own skeleton to just hang out in my apartment. My boyfriend and dog would love that.
LAZER EYES! (the dog and boyfriend in question)

Good things
I know I've been posting a lot of "art school" posts, understandably since that is what I am doing 80% (estimate) of my time. Soon it will be summer, my first semester will be over, and I will barrage the website with a plethora of pointless comics about how bored I am. in the meantime:
I got into my first ever art show. It was the Design 123 show at Cornish for Design students. It may have been old hat for a lot of students there, but for me it was the biggest deal. My pieces were the only comics in the show, and it was the best thing to see them hanging there.
Good things people.
"These are so pedantic."
Also naked people. Figure drawing in class is awesome and fun.
Ink!
Oh Lord Perspective
We made foam core models of a structure, (I was thinking kinda roman/turkish bathhouse) and then inked them. Lots of practice with cross hatching!

You'll See!
Let this go down as the first picture I have ever drawn with a tablet in adobe illustrator.
Hopefully by this time next year it will be the most intricate mermaid in the land. or Sea.

Day of the Dead
Ughhh, I am not a fan of Blogger and it's inefficient ways of posting artwork. Suuupper annoying. But you can see it, and that's all that matters. For those of you that didn't know, if you click on the pictures you can toggle through them, which is much more fun then scrolling up and down.
So! This is a project I've been working on in my drawing class. It focuses a lot on ellipses aka circles aka natures perfect form of torture for artists. We had to include three that were on the table and then create our own scenario from our IMAGINATION.
I know! So exciting.
I like it very much; very challenging, very satifying. I like to look at it, which I guess is a mark of success. Plates are hard. Wine glasses are bitches. Day of the Dead makeup is really neat. Skin tone is challenging.
All the lessons I've learned!

Bone Thrower
Comic due for comic class today! It was an assignment titled "Fight," and we were to explore panels and different "shots" in comics. So, things like, aspect to aspect, scene to scene, person to person. All that jazz. I think it turned out well. I enjoy my cave people fight panels. And the old headwoman's face. I had a lot of fun drawing her face fo sho!
I can't believe it's already Thursday, it's already March and I wore little flats with bows on them to school.
What up Spring!

Hump in The Night
Realized I never posted this! Our assignment was to create a comic called "Strange Sound."
We had to include a
- text heavy panel
- a montage panel (the first panel, which is a word made out of her hair. It's very annoying and complicated.)
- A panel that was just a picture
- And a non sequitor panel, which is a picture that doesn't necessarily match the text
It was a pretty challenging assignment, because I got this idea of a domanatrix with a guy in her closet pretty immediately. I was super stuck on it, and Ellen kept asking me these annoying questions like
"Why is it a strange noise if she knows the guy is in the closet?"
"Try and make charactors that aren't so stock. ie: The hot femme fatale and angry guy in closet."
"Why does she put guys in her closet?"
Ugh, I wanted to cry. She seemed like she was being really unhelpful and just hating on my comic. I was really frustrated and being bratty because I was comparing myself to other people in the class, who had created pretty simple comics that I was sure made just as little sense as mine. If not less.
So I sucked it up, and went back to Ellen and said "I don't understand what you're wanting me to do. How can I change this so it's better and more understandable?"
And I went home and I thought about it and I drew some cats.
And then this happened.
People in class must think I'm crazzzy. I guess drawing a comic of a vigilante who fights for the rights of animals and kidnaps men who abuse them is not a normal thing...

Things I Hate
I have stated many, many times that I am "not here to make friends." Just like in reality television!
But at the same time, it is supes annoying when we have to group up and I'm like, the weird kid. I don't think I'm ever the weird kid actually, there are actually legit weird kids for that. I'm fairly normal looking and don't dye my hair or draw anime. I do draw a lot of naked people in my comics. I'm like, jesus, we're in art school. Is that not a perk? Are we not supposed to draw lots of boobs?
No?
Maybe I am the weird kid.

Franzi
Did a portrait of my buddy Franzi the other day after class. She's a nice lady and very pretty too. I took a picture of her after we went running one day
(Which I'm sure is exactly the picture she wanted me to use for a portrait).
It's interesting to draw things that I would normally avoid (ie: portraits) and see how much I've improved. I know this is another obvious one, but my classes have improved my skills so much, even in classical drawing that I hardly do outside my drawing class. I draw cartoons man! I'll have to find some things from my notebooks from years ago to post.
It's fun to see how much I SUCKED have evolved in my art.

Oh Land!

Beddings
New assignment in drawing: moving on from sad fruit, we have entered the world of sadistic fabric. Fabric don't give a shit. Fruits are like, aw man, I'm wilting! My shapes are forgiving and interpretive! Fabrics like: Oh IM SORRY if you feel seasick trying to grasp my shapes and curves.
I just fell this way baby!
Annnnyways. Check out this process yo!
This monstrosity. Uf.
Mhmm. Mhmm. Drawin' some pillows. I chose not to blend the charcoal.
Which I don't regret. I like the affect it has. Blending does give it a softer look,
but I like the sharpness of mine.
I tackle the fabric. I want to throw up or literally tackle the fabric.
Heyyyyy, lookit that!
There's a shadow! There's a buncha shadows! Snaps.
Le End.
And in case you missed it:
The Forgiving Fruit

Scales
My first fully inked (With brush and india ink) comic! It's history you guys! The assignment for my comic class (Called Comics: Essential Tools! very exciting.) was to create a comic without words, using icons (speech bubbles, exclamation points, sweat drops, etc.) and shaping our theme on the idea of "Big and Small".
So as you can see I have a big fish, and a little bitty fish!
Man, inking with a brush is so scary and so freeing.
I held my breath almost the whole time. There's nothing like imagining something in your head, and feeling that thought travel through your mind, into your arm, through your hand and fingers and onto paper.
Sorry, does that sound super... New agey? I've never felt that before now. To this extent at least. I hold my breath and grin like an idiot when I finish a line.
I like it. I hope you do too.
Also: I have a tumblr! Which you can follow! It's my new favorite thing because I am finding SO MANY artists I love!

Doodles in Art History
You probably can't read my handwriting, so I will enlighten you:
"It seems like it's enticing fear..."
"Interpreting art: If it sounds like bullshit, you're doing it right!"
"The lines are harder, which might mean anger and negative emotions..."
"The roses might mean the holy trinity..."
For all of it's bullshit, I do really enjoy art history.
