It Pumps Me Up!

It's either lyrically offensive, or musically offensive. Mostly Nikki Minaj and LMFAO.
So sad they broke up.

Franzi

Did a portrait of my buddy Franzi the other day after class. She's a nice lady and very pretty too. I took a picture of her after we went running one day
(Which I'm sure is exactly the picture she wanted me to use for a portrait).
It's interesting to draw things that I would normally avoid (ie: portraits) and see how much I've improved. I know this is another obvious one, but my classes have improved my skills so much, even in classical drawing that I hardly do outside my drawing class. I draw cartoons man! I'll have to find some things from my notebooks from years ago to post.
It's fun to see how much I SUCKED have evolved in my art.

Pears

Another still life in drawing II. We're using conte charcoal, which is a much less forgiving form of charcoal. No smudging or re-doing. You have to move the conte in tiny little circles to make marks and it's exhausting.
I had a moment yesterday in class where I thought:
Shit. I just can't do this. I have a cold and I don't get this.
I'll go home and come back to it on Wednesday.
But then something awesome happened, and a tiny little inch square of my paper turned out PERFECT. Just a little bitty part of a pear looked beautiful; the shading perfect, the conte totally working for me, instead of against me.
The immense satisfaction of doing it right brought me back and I ended up staying late after class instead of leaving early.
Art school, guys.

Also this song is great:

Chilly

Fall; the perfect excuse to layer and wear ten pairs of leggings. And buy new boots. Did I mention I bought new boots?

Also this song, oh man this song:
I will come over and hold you while you listen to this song, because you really shouldn't be alone.

Love Letters

I think this is an excellent exercise for anyone; even if you don't draw, just to write down. I love so many things! It was difficult to think of the things I really loved on a day to day basis (And the things I wanted to draw). If my day had all of these things in it... Man! That would be the best day ever. Maybe I need to plan my next birthday around these things.
I also sound like an old lady: tea, scarves, old books, letters, cats! I actually don't particularly like cats, but bookstores with cats are always better. I guess I am an old soul as far as the rest of the things go. Or a teenaged girl as far as the chest hair thing. I think I watched too many Sean Connery movies as a child! (Too many Sean Connery movies. psh. That is not even a thing.)
What do YOU love?

When choosing music to put on this blog, I usually try to use whichever songs I was listening to while working. Today cracks me up, because I love the weirdest songs. I guess a wide range of genres. You tell me. Two very different songs, both very near and dear to my heart:
Guster: Always a favorite.

And...
What can I say; I like my coffee black, just like my metal.
Mindless Self Indulgence! It's for dancing!
Add to my love list: Any songs that include the "whip crack" sound. Classic.

Cookies

The sad/awesome thing about this comic is that it is probably one of the more labor intensive comics that I've ever made, and it's about making cookies. Well I like it!
Also I haven't done the dishes yet. Because I've been working on this comic for three hours.

Utensil

I don't know why I like the marriage of technical tools and soft painted textured colors, but I do! I'm into it right now. I like the insides of machines and how things work and color gradients.

Some knives! To hang in my kitchen when I move in the Fall. Some of my favorite coral and peach colors.
Leona Naess is rockin' it.

Fremont Solstice Festival

And then I drank to forget my troubles and the peely, itchy paint all over my body.
Despite being a complete wreck of a bike ride/parade, it was a really fun day. And those are the kind of people you want to spend time with; where things could be awful and disappointing , and instead they are not.
I hope if you were not riding in the parade, you at least got to see some naked bodies. There were many. Next year I will have a plan for my paint (And a bicycle?) and it will be epic.
In other news: I am never riding a rickshaw again.

Imagine Dragons is my jam today!

This Post Brought to You By: Nakedness

This picture was drawn listening to a lot of this:

And this naked honey was probably inspired by a lot of this action:

Or Yarn. It was inspired by yarn.
I just get a lot of requests for pictures of my dancing in my underwear. (No, I don't really. I don't actually get any requests, surprise!)
This is what I'm doing a lot of lately though, so that's what you get. Work, dancing in underwear, repeat. It's a hard life, but someones gotta live it, you know?

Confessions

Oh autobiographical comics. Fodder for the future-you to look back in time and laugh at. Or cry. Depending on how much your future sucks. Anyways. I saw a video of an ex-boyfriend with his baby the other day. It was so strange, like looking into an alternative future. He's very happy with his wife and baby, and that is so weird/great.
This is not about any one ex boyfriend in particular, I should stress.
I miss all of them in different ways.
Dating is strange.

New Hurr

Sometimes the best help is your own help. I'm sure this will be recorded as one of my sappier, lonely comics. But it's true.
My new hair is taking some getting used to... Before it was just two swoops behind my ears; now I have these funky little bangs to draw... But I dig it. It's very different and fun. Someone told me I looked "gangsta" yesterday, which I took to heart.
Someone else told me I reminded them of this artist, and I loved that even more, because um, well... Just watch the video. How can it not be a compliment?:
I hope someone serenades me with this song someday...
